The official process began in July with Palpa Cement exporting its Tansen brand to India. Nepal’s government, reportedly in its annual budget, has introduced a subsidy of 8 per cent in cash to companies exporting cement using raw materials from Nepal. Over 50 cement companies operate in Nepal, which includes companies such as Palpa Cement Industries that produce both cement and clinker. The total cement production capacity of the companies is reported to be 22 million tonne. However, industrialists say that cement products from Nepal face stiff price competition in the Indian market.
