KONE’s Health and Wellbeing Solutions for lifts and escalators to beat COVID-19 and enhanced safety with IoT-based 24/7 Connected Services.

In the prevailing COVID-19 environment, the way people interact with everyday surroundings will be challenging. As we ease out of lockdown and re-enter public buildings, we need to come to terms with the new normal with complete certainty. “To address this changing need, KONE, as a pioneer in people flow, has introduced a range of health and well-being solutions that will help recreate safer user journeys and healthy spaces in your buildings,” says Amit Gossain, Managing Director, KONE Elevator India.

To say that the pandemic has thrown life out of gear for all of us would be an understatement. Indeed, COVID-19 has forced us to rethink the way we should live. Public spaces are stressful in a Coronavirus-stricken environment and the way people interact with everyday surroundings is set to change. It becomes imperative that buildings and cities are made safer and healthier places to live, work and commute.

As a pioneer in people flow, and with a holistic approach to health, well-being and safety, KONE has introduced a range of Health and Well-being Solutions that will help recreate safer user journeys and healthy spaces
in buildings.

Creating healthy spaces

Here’s how KONE will recreate safer user journeys and healthy spaces in buildings:

Reduce the need to touch surfaces – Elevator Call Feature using WhatsApp is a response to this. It allows users to summon an elevator using social messaging channels like WhatsApp, removing the need to touch possibly contaminated buttons or displays.

Contributing to healthier environment – Physical distancing elevator floor stickers and elevator capacity adjustment will ensure less crowding and thereby contribute to a
healthier environment.

Helping to prevent the spread of disease – KONE Handrail Sanitizer, an escalator handrail cleaning solution that uses a type of ultraviolet light (UV-C) to continuously clean the handrail when the escalator is in use.

Keep equipment running and safe – The transparency and preventive maintenance offered by the cloud based KONE 24/7 Connected Services can help here.

How connected elevators and escalators work!
Data relating to key operating parameters, usage statistics and faults is gathered from the elevators and escalators. All the information is sent in real time to cloud service, where the analytics are located. If the system identifies the need for maintenance, it either alerts a technician immediately, or contacts technical support or customer service, according to how critical the problem is. Customers are provided with clear notifications and report of all the actions taken to keep their equipment running. The 24/7 Connected Services are remotely monitored to ensure less equipment downtime, fewer faults and detailed information on maintenance task.

What actually changes with 24/7
Constant monitoring and less risk of accidents, like tripping over thanks to more accurate levelling monitoring, detecting and prevents issues undetectable with plain eyes and ears. Probability of entrapments overall will decrease as the elevator is monitored 24/7 and preventive actions can be done before anything major occurs.
