Larsen & Toubro (L&T) is one of the largest and most respected companies in India's private sector. The company has an international presence, with a global spread of offices. It continues to grow its global footprint, with offices and manufacturing facilities in multiple countries. As in the news, L&T reported adjusted net profit of Rs 7.94 billion (Rs 794 crore) for the first quarter of fiscal 2015.
The company has recently commissioned a solar photovoltaic (PV) plant of 7.52 MWp capacity on a single roof at Amritsar in Punjab. More than 30,000 panels were erected on the rooftop of the shed spread over 94,000 sq m. L&T has also won new orders worth Rs 1,423 crore across various business segments in September this year. These include a Rs 631 crore order bagged by its Heavy Civil Infrastructure Business from Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation for the construction of the Lucknow Metro. Among its most recent big-ticket contracts bagged is the Rs 2,989-crore order to erect Sardar Patel´s Statue of Unity in central Gujarat. Some of the company´s many ongoing projects include the Riyadh Metro in Saudi Arabia and the Doha Metro in Qatar.
L&T´s standalone revenue in 2013-14 witnessed an impressive increase of 11.82 per cent to Rs 65,547 crore while its net profit was up by 1.25 per cent to Rs 6,126.19 crore from Rs 6,050.81 crore in the previous year.
