Advanced Traffic Management System Plan by NHAI

National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is currently testing an Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) which helps in providing information to the authorities like the vehicle registration and pollution control certificate. ATMS will also help in notifying the authorities regarding the use of the seat belt by the traveler. From the number plate, the mechanism can avail information about the vehicle insurance, and lifespan. It can also check the pollution certificate and the CNG kit testing certificate. In the case of commercial vehicles, the system will also check the viability of the above-mentioned fitness certificates.

The plans are to integrate the system in all the expressways in India. Therefore, it will be connected to the transport department’s vehicle database.

Additionally, if any vehicle’s papers are invalid, ATMS will be sharing the data with the local traffic police. These vehicles will be further fined by the police and in contrast to the ongoing method police will not have to place barricades for catching them. The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is planning to install the ATMS system in all the under-construction national highways and expressways mandatorily. Currently, the system is being tested in the NCR region on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway and Eastern Peripheral Expressway.
