New bridge over the Brahmaputra

The construction of a new bridge over the Brahmaputra on NH17 near Jogigopain, Assam, has begun. This two-lane bridge will be built alongside the existing two-lane bridge. The project, will be overseen by the National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL), which has awarded Satpal (SP) Singla Constructions the construction contract after a tendering process.

The project, comprising a 4.39-km bridge and approach road, is expected to be completed in November 2024 at the earliest. While the budget was set at `7.47 billion, the contract was only given for `4.03 billion. The project will be carried out under Bharatmala, the Government of India's centrally sponsored and supported road and highways initiative.
