Numaligarh Refinery (NRL) has awarded an EPC contract to thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions India (tkIS India) at a cost of about $155 million to execute a 6.0 mmtpa crude distillation unit and vacuum distillation unit with amine treating unit project on LSTK basis at its refinery in Assam, India.

As part of the Numaligarh Refinery Expansion Project (NREP), NRL is expanding its refining capacity from the current 3 mmtpa to 9 mmtpa
by installing a new 6 mmtpa capacity CDU/VDU and associated downstream process units, utility and offsite. The scope of EPC work for this project includes engineering, project management, procurement and supply, inspection and expediting, construction management and supervision, mechanical completion and pre-commissioning of plant, commissioning, start-up, PGTR and handover of plant.

“This is a landmark project for tkIS India and the foundation of a strong pillar in our association with Numaligarh Refinery as it takes its expansion plans forward,”says Rajesh Kamath, CEO and Managing Director of thyssenkrupp’s chemical plant business in India.“This will further foster our position in the Indian market as a leading EPC player in the field of refineries and petrochemicals.”

Currently, tkIS India is also offering its EPCM services for the new 2 mmtpa (PFCC) unit, (LPG) treatment unit, GHDS unit, MS blocks with NHT, CCR and ISOM units for the NRL refinery. tkIS is a leading EPC and engineering consultancy offering solutions across different sectors, such as petrochemical and refinery, fertilisers, chlor-alkali and cryogenic storages. It has executed over 850 projects in the past four decades. With this project, it is hopeful to establish its position in the industry as a strong EPC contractor.
