Bazmi Husain, the global head of the Smart Grid industry segment for ABB, has been appointed Country Manager and Managing Director of ABB Ltd in India from January 1, 2011. Bazmi will replace Biplab Majumder, who will retire after a long and distinguished career of 33 years. Biplab will continue as a member of the board of ABB India until the Annual General Meeting in 2011.
Bazmi joined ABB in 1981, and managed a variety of local business units and divisions in India and Singapore before taking the responsibility for the company’s research centre in 2002. From 2005-09 he was the director of the company’s corporate research centre in Västerås, Sweden and also led its global automation technology research.
Bazmi currently heads the Smart Grid Industry Segment Initiative within Marketing and Customer solutions, where he has done an exceptional job of defining the company’s go-to-market strategy.
