High five

01 Aug 2013 Long Read

Post its success in the Middle East, The BIG 5 is putting up its first-ever event in India. In its new avatar, The BIG 5 Construct India 2013 will showcase the best in construction practices.

Date: September 2-4, 2013 Venue: Bombay Exhibition Centre, Goregaon, Mumbai

It's time for India! After its tremendous success in the Middle East, the BIG 5 has come to our country for the very first time. This renowned exhibition in the building and construction segment in the Middle East, Southeast and Central Asia, last year alone it attracted over 60,000 audited buyers of construction products.

"The construction industry in India is growing at a rapid rate," says Muhammed Kazi, Project Manager, The Big 5 Construct India. "In the past decade, the country has witnessed a tremendous housing boom and over the span of five years, from 2012-2016, the real estate sector is expected to account for 43 per cent of the construction spend in India. This segment is forecast to achieve a CAGR of 13.6 per cent during this period."

A PwC report prepared for the event organiser forecast that the total market for this segment during 2012-2016 is estimated to be about Rs 22,800 crore.

India's growing construction industry has captured the imagination of global conglomerates. Banking on the country's potential, the Union Ministry of Urban Development, the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and exhibition and publishing company dmg events have joined hands to organise The Big 5 Construct India 2013 to give the Indian market much-needed global exposure.

The launch event in India will cover an area of 15,000 sq m at Bombay Exhibition Centre, Goregaon, Mumbai, from September 2-4 this year.

Event highlight

Emerging technology is enabling the Indian construction sector to tackle escalating project costs and prolonged construction periods; improve quality, delivery and performance; and address sustainability and environment-related concerns. In short, it enables the sector to react to changing market conditions effectively and efficiently. Aptly, the show focuses on 'building products and construction technologies'.

Visitors will include architects, contractors, project managers, project consultants, interior designers, engineers, developers and builders from across India.

Visitors' delight

The exhibition will showcase the latest construction technologies and display a vast range of local and international construction products, from heavy machinery to fit-out products. With close to 220 exhibitors, it is an all-inclusive display of building and construction products including construction chemicals, steel, concrete, paints and coatings, ceramic and tiles, plastics and composites, water technology, stone and marble, HVAC, pipes and fittings, pumps, windows and doors, aluminium, and so much more.

There is an exciting roundup of innovative products in store. For instance, there is a technologically advanced polyurethane product for waterproofing, flooring and roofing; the super stretch and wrap ultimate multipurpose rescue tape that could be used to fix virtually anything; and seamless sculptural wall surface designs, seamless contemporary resin floorings and decorative resin wall panels.

Kazi adds: "Some well-known international exhibitors include Emirates Steel, Dura Dyne, Rimac, Al Chimica and Zennio while our Indian exhibitors include Jindal Stainless Steel, Asian Paints, Astral CPGC, Tekla and Ashtech." The event will also emerge as a launch pad for new companies and products.

Points of attraction

The exhibition layout and organisation promises to be on a par with the best international standards. There will be 10 international country pavilions and many international and Indian exhibitors; many exhibiting for the first time in India. In addition, there will be a series of free seminars and panel discussions, providing participants with information, trends, analyses and best practice case studies. Moreover, there is an exclusive Platinum Club Lounge for VIP exhibitors and visitors.

Exciting launches

"We will showcase our premium technology-driven products to industry professionals," says Shashi Suvarna, Business Head, Rossari Biotech. "On offer is the world's first cementitious sealant that can be used in wet conditions and on water-immersed conditions. Our international principals will demonstrate new products in a nascent stage in India but widely used abroad. The new launches come from two of our new JVs: Knopp from Germany and Drizoro from Spain." The Knopp products focus on screed additives while Drizoro specialises in waterproofing. Equally excited is another exhibitor. "We are really positive about our new launch, PVD SS, which stands for physical vapour deposition-coated stainless steel," discloses Priyank Mistry, Manager, ARC - a Jindal Stainless company. "This will help us grow our Indian and international client base."

A greener tomorrow

Meanwhile, Ashtech is introducing newer, greener products. "We see a huge demand in the market for building and construction products and the requirement is moving towards greener products," says Sanjay Mandhania, Director, Ashtech India. "Our fly ash is marketed globally and we have been equally successful in our other products. We shall be launching our range of crystal marble, coloured concrete and gypsum plaster, apart from our regular products."

This event definitely holds more exciting surprises in store. Unmissable!

The Platinum Club

The Big 5 Platinum Club is an exclusive club for the region's most respected contractors, architects, project managers, consultants and buyers of construction products valued upward from US$ 100 million. "Members are given direct access to companies with products they wish to source and our objective is to help them build personal relationships and contacts to take advantage of the business opportunities," explains Kazi.

The criteria for gaining access to the club are extremely stringent, though. A team of industry experts does extensive research to identify members, who are then invited to join their peers. The Big 5 Platinum Club admits members by invitation only and all members enjoy VIP service and free entry to all show features across any of The Big 5 portfolio of events.
