In addition to the already existing 142 cities covered under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), Maharashtra is set to have another 232 cities to come under the ambit of this scheme. Housing ministry officials reportedly believe that this will allow the government to undertake more projects under the PMAY.
This is in line with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ recent statement that the government is trying to create more housing stock. According to reports, the Maharashtra Government has also proposed the Slum Rehabilitation Authority Scheme to be a part of the PMAY, so that more subsidy can be available for affordable housing.
This initiative is expected to aid more coordination between all the various PMAY departments and will help fastrack Housing For All.
