Odisha govt uses GIS to prepare master plan of 31 cities

01 May 2013

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik informed at a conference that the state government was making use of the Geographical Information System (GIS) to prepare a Master Plan of 31 cities and towns in the state.

It may be noted that master plans enable preparation and implementation of different schemes in a town. A Comprehensive Development Plan is also required for town planning and to provide basic infrastructure to people.

The master plan, prepared using GIS mapping and remote sensing survey, would help resolve the problems like traffic snarls and scarcity of drinking water in the new areas of the towns.

Patnaik said this at the conference of Mayors and Chairpersons of the urban local bodies of the state recently.

The state government included 41 cities under the e-governance programme. After Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Puri, the government is also planning to introduce the City Bus service in Baripada, Sambalpur, Rourkela, Brahmapur and Baleswar.

The chief minister advised the corporators and chairpersons of the civic bodies to give adequate attention to resolve the problems of the poor urban residents.
