Road repair works to begin in all wards of Madurai

Road repairs will be taken up in all the 100 wards of Madurai by the Madurai Corporation soon, the city Mayor VV Rajan Chellappa said. The road works are to be taken up under the Urban Infrastructure Development Scheme, he added.

After hoisting the national flag at the Republic Day function on the Anna Maligai premises in Maduari, Chellappa said that Rs 24.05 crore has been allocated to repair the roads in the old city and the newly added areas. The Mayor recalled that 14 important roads in the city that were damaged in North East Monsoon had been repaired at a cost of Rs 98.85 crore.

The Corporation is constructing an omni-bus stand near the Mattuthavani Integrated Bus stand at a cost of Rs 1.80 crore to decongest traffic near the Periyar bus stand.

Works to make the Ring Road on par with National Highway has been taken up at a cost of Rs 11.08 crore. Under this project, the stretch of roads near the five toll booths would be widened and the toll booths modernised, he added. Works to provide streetlights at a cost of Rs 19.15 crore under the Integrated Urban Development scheme would be taken up soon.
