Widening work on Kakinada-Rajahmundry road begins

In coastal Andhra Pradesh, the extension works of the canal road between Kakinada and Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage at Dowleswaram have commenced. The 62-km length of the canal road will be widened to 10.5 metre from the existing eight metre. Transstroy Company is executing the Rs 298-crore works. Gravel track on both sides of the road will also be laid.

Revenue officials have handed over 16 km of area in Kakinada Urban, Kakinada Rural and Samalkot mandals of Kakinada division and 14 km in Kadiyam, Mandapeta, Anaparthi and Biccavolu mandals of Rajahmundry division to officials of Roads and Buildings Department.

Meanwhile, 10 km of bypass road between Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage at Dowleswaram and Vetlapalem and 5 km between Vetlapalem and Samalkot will be laid. A 10-km four-lane 22-metre wide road will also be laid between Samalkot and Kanavada village. After completion of road widening works, the journey time between Dowleswaram and Kakinada will be reduced to two hours from the existing two and a half hours.

The canal road between Dowleswaram and Kakinada is a busy road, is narrow and full of potholes, giving jitters to vehicle users.
