The board of UltraTech Cement, an Aditya Birla Group company, has approved an investment of Rs.54.77 bn for raising capacity by 12.8 mn tonne, which would be a combination of brownfield and greenfield expansions. In view of the rising demand for cement, the new current approved investment amount would be over and above the planned Rs.15 bn capital expenditure for FY2021. The additional capacity would be created in the east, central and north regions of the country. The new capacity is expected to go on stream in a phased manner by Q4 of FY2023. Of the total capacity expansion, 72 per cent is brownfield, while balance is greenfield. The investment amount is to be funded from internal accruals.
