Under Nitin Gadkari´s guidance, the rural development ministry is now drawing up plans to spend Rs 3.45 lakh crore to build nearly 30 million houses for the homeless by 2022 under the National Gramin Awaas Mission. He has been assigned the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and Rural Development in the Narendra Modi Government. This initiative has been taken up by him in the background of the Prime Minister´s vision of housing for all. For this mission, the ministry plans to spend nearly Rs 50,000 crore a year. Known to bring about socio-economic transformation, Gadkari has also been the Maharashtra PWD minister and has undertaken various infrastructure projects including the Mumbai-Pune Expressway and launch of the National Highways Authority of India. With the noble programme of building houses for the poor, looks like Gadkari will transform the ´housing for all´ initiative into reality!
