Led by Afcons' Project Manager Chandra Shekhar Dixit, the company has made a breakthrough point of the Tunnel T49 between Sumber and Arpinchala Stations on the ongoing Katra-Banihal Section in the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link project. This 12.75 km-long tunnel is going to be the longest of the Indian Railways, surpassing the Peer Panjal Tunnel of 11.2 km. The south and north portal of Tunnel T49 is located at an altitude of 1,400 m and 1,600 m, respectively. Afcons has constructed 7.32 km of the 12.75 km-long tunnel amid various geological and weather-related challenges. While executing the tunnel from the north portal, the team excavated 4.07 km from a single adit, making it the most critical and the longest length executed by any agency from a singular adit.
