Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) can be attributed for taking the growth of India’s road sector to new heights. Yet again, with Nitin Gadkari, Minister for Road Transport and Highways and Shipping at its helm, MoRTH has approved another visionary and ambitious project – the Chennai-Surat expressway at a whopping Rs.500 billion. Currently, vehicles have to travel 1,600 km from Chennai to reach Surat; once the project is commissioned this distance will be reduced to 1,270 km. The project is expected to cut down travel time between Chennai and Surat by six hours. Once completed, the expressway will enable commuters to avoid congested roads around Bengaluru, Pune and Mumbai. In addition to providing faster connectivity, the project will also provide an onward option for north India with a link to the Delhi-Mumbai expressway at Surat. We are excited for the project to see the light of day!
