AP faces power shortage

01 Apr 2012

Amidst acute shortage of electricity in the state, power utilities in Andhra Pradesh require about 1.61 lakh small and micro industrial units to observe a two-day power holiday in a week along with the regular weekly off. Also, no power will be supplied between 6 pm and 10 pm everyday in the name of peak load adjustment. Along with the 12 days forced by the three-days-a-week power closure, the four-hour shutdown will translate into 120 hours of closure or another five holidays in a month. Hence, industrial units can work for only 13 days a month, which has resulted in a lockout by industrial units.
