Himachal to generate 15,000 MW by 2017

The Himachal Pradesh State Power Transmission Corporation will execute a Rs 2,000 crore power evacuation project to evacuate power generated on the water of five major rivers in the state. The foundation stone of the 33 kV sub-station at Fojal in Kullu district has already been laid. The state had hydel power potential of more than 23,000 MW, of which, only 2,838 MW was generated till 1998; this increased to about 8,000 MW and 1,000 MW more would be added in the near future. Hence, the government had targeted around 15,000 MW of power by the 2017 and the entire potential by 2020.
