The state has plans to spend Rs 8,000 crore through PSU Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Ltd for constructing extra high voltage sub-stations and transmission lines during the Twelfth Five-Year Plan period (2012-17). Also, an additional amount of Rs 1,500 crore will be spent for augmentation of transmission infrastructure. Poor infrastructure is one of the reasons for poor power supply in the state. Odisha also plans to include private distribution companies under the Restructured Accelerated Power Development and Reforms Programme, a central financial assistance scheme.
