World’s largest floating solar plant planned in Madhya Pradesh

The world’s largest floating solar energy plant, at 600 MW, is to be constructed on the Omkareshwar Dam reservoir on the Narmada river in Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh. It will begin power generation by 2022-23. The estimated investment in this project is Rs.30,000 mn. The International Finance Corporation, World Bank and Power Grid Corp have granted in-principle consent for providing aid. The primary feasibility study of the project has been completed in collaboration with the World Bank.

The work of transmission line route survey will begin from the project area to Khandwa sub-station by Power Grid soon. The tender for the study of the environmental and social impact of the project area is also being issued.
