The foundation stone has been laid for a waste-to-energy plant set up by the Karnataka Power Corp and the Bengaluru civic body Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike at Bidadi in Ramanagara district, about 32-km from Bengaluru. The estimated cost of this 11.5 MW power generation unit, using 600 tonne of waste per day, is Rs2.6 bn, which will be shared equally by the KPCL and BBMP. The plant will come up in the next two years. Bengaluru generates 5,000 metric tonnes of waste each day. The components used for setting up the plant are indigenous, which works towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi''s aim of ‘Atma Nirbhar Bharat'.
