ISTS charges waiver to be applied to renewable energy projects

The Ministry of Power has announced that Inter-State Transmission (ISTS) charges waiver will apply to renewable energy (RE) projects such as solar, wind, pumped hydro storage and Battery Energy Storage Systems, commissioned until June 2025. These projects could be set up for captive use or sold to an entity under competitive bidding, power exchanges and bilateral agreements. Reportedly, open access solar project developers have expressed that waiving the ISTS charges on solar and RE projects will promote the growth of open access projects connected to the ISTS network. India has installed about 935 MW of open access solar capacity in the first nine months of 2021.
