Maharashtra nod for 80-km underground power cable project
01 Jan 2021
In the light of the blackout in the entire Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) in October, the state government has sanctioned a plan to build an underground transmission network, of which the first phase will comprise an 80-km line from Aarey in Mumbai to Kudus in Palghar district. The Aarey to Kudus stretch of the underground high-voltage direct current (HVDC) cables project would be built by Adani Electricity Mumbai. The Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company will also have a role in implementing the project, which will connect the 400 kV Kudus substation with AEML’s 220 kV Aarey substation. The first-of-its-kind project would provide an additional 1,000 MW of electricity to Mumbai.
