Mega hydro power projects to come up in J&K

Aiming to make Jammu and Kashmir a power surplus region, multiple MoUs have been signed to implement mega hydro power projects. The MoUs were signed between Power Development Department (PDD), J&K; National Hydroelectric Power Corporation and J&K Power Development Corporation. The five hydro projects immediately on the anvil are: 
1,856 MW Sawalkot HEP; 930 MW Kirthai-II HEP; 850 MW Ratle HEP; 258 MW Dulhasti (Stage-II); and 240 MW Uri-I (Stage-II). The MoUs are expected to attract investments worth Rs.3,500 bn for the Jammu and Kashmir power sector. As per the terms in the MoUs, the projects would be handed back to the state after 40 years of commercial operation.
