Mechanical Separator to be installed
at the garbage dump near Palahi
village in Phagwara, and its
infrastructure has been constructed.
After installing the separator, old
waste dumped at the site for over 18
years, including scrap items, compostable waste, etc., would be
separated for proper disposal and reduce the waste heaps. There are
around 14 lakh metric tonnes (MT) of waste, of which 4 lakh MT
would be separated by the machine and properly disposed of in 1.5
years. Regular spraying is also being arranged near the garbage
dumping area to control the stink. A tubewell is being installed at the
garbage dump to ensure daily water spraying to prevent fire.
