With a Rs.2.89 bn allocation from KIIFB for boosting infrastructure development in Ponnani, the tendering process for the proposed suspension bridge across the Bharathapuzha connecting Ponnani harbour with Padinharekkara in Kerala has got under way. Modelled on the lines of the iconic Howrah Bridge in Kolkata, the 1-km bridge will pass over the estuary where the Bharathapuzha opens into the Arabian Sea. L&T infrastructure, which was given the task of preparing the detailed project report, submitted the DPR recently. The government has initiated measures to float a global tender to identify companies to undertake the project.
