Maharashtra no longer needs to approve MHADA redevelopment projects

01 Oct 2022

Redevelopment projects sanctioned by the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) will no longer require approval from the housing department, overturning yet another judgement of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA).

In response to the Patra Chawl Redevelopment Scam, the MVA issued a circular in March 2019 requiring housing department authorisation for all MHADA projects. Currently, the government is granted both administrative and approving authority.

For development projects to be completed quickly, decentralisation of these authorities is necessary
