Bengaluru civic body set for Mandur landfill makeover

01 Apr 2021

Amid complaints about the deteriorating waste management in the city, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has invited tenders for a bio-mining project on 135 acres of land in the Mandur landfill, 28 km from the city. The municipal corporation has taken steps towards bio-mining the accumulated waste in the landfills, which will take around five years to complete and cost around Rs 159 crore. The landfill has about 20 lakh tonnes of garbage, which was dumped between 2008 and 2014. To clean the accumulated waste and debris, the municipal corporation has split the project into two packages, North and South. Tamil Nadu-based Zigma Global Environ Solutions Pvt Ltd is believed to have expressed interest in the project.
