The Integrated Solar Dryer and Pyrolysis pilot project was recently inaugurated in Chennai. The project focuses on urban waste management and streamlining the collection, segregation, treatment, and disposal systems of urban wastes in Indian Smart Cities. The Pyrasol project uses simple and robust processing techniques to convert waste into products and reduce the carbon footprint of smart cities. The project does this by producing Biochar and clean energy. Chennai is one of India’s first 20 smart cities to nurture this innovation in managing its waste effectively and undertake extensive wastewater treatment.
