Bharatpur in Rajasthan is likely to become a smart city over the coming years as the move to include the city in the Smart City Mission gathers pace. The state’s Urban Development Department recently sent a proposal to the Union Ministry of Urban Development to include Bharatpur in the smart city scheme. With this, Bharatpur is expected to grow rapidly, and provide more employment avenues. The Union government has allotted Rs.2 bn to the centrally-sponsored Smart Cities Mission for the first year and Rs.1 bn for the next four years in various schemes. The state governments are also providing financial assistance for these projects. The mission covers 100 cities across the country.
