In order to ensure the stalled Maduravoyal to Chennai Port elevated corridor project, the Chennai Port Trust and the Indian Navy has agreed to exchange land. Due to an increase in the width and the length of the proposed project, the cost of the project has increased to Rs 35 bn. As per a formal agreement, the Indian Navy will be providing the port 1.09 lakh sq ft of land in exchange for an equivalent area closer to the port’s boundary near INS Adyar.
