Restrictions on the utilisation of Indian air space will be eased so that civilian flying becomes more efficient, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said while announcing details of the Rs.20 tn package to help overcome the COVID crisis.
She said the aviation sector’s share of this would total Rs.10 bn, and that six more airports will be auctioned for private participation. Also, an additional investment of Rs.130 bn will be made by private players in 12 airports auctioned in first and second rounds. This, according to the finance minister, would bring in optimal utilisation of airspace and reduce fuel costs and flying time.
