01 Apr 2021

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has sanctioned Rs. 242 crore to fast-track the airport in Ayodhya. This comes a fortnight after the Uttar Pradesh government earmarked Rs. 101 crore for the airport, to be known as Maryada Purushottam Sriram Airport. It will eventually be an international airport. Around 270 acres of land has been made available by the state, which will enable ATR72-type aircraft operations in the first phase. Another 558 acres is being acquired for upgrading the airport for operation of wide body aircraft in phase 2. The Centre also plans seaplane connectivity for the holy city. The Sagarmala Development Company, under the Shipping and Waterways Ministry, has already issued an expression of interest for this.
