The asset monetisation policy for public assets gets another push as the government decided to sell its stake in all major metro airports of Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad. Collectively, they handle more than half of the country’s overall air passenger traffic. This move came after the private-partnership model has been implemented in Delhi and Mumbai. Apart from the identified AAI metro airports, 13 other airports are also set to be privatised. An aviation executive said that this decision comes on the back of the fact that AAI needs funds but cash flow is low due to the pandemic.
