Kanpur Metro likely to be operational by end of December 2021

Kanpur Metro is expected to open by the end of December 2021, based on the progress of the trial runs. Operations on the 9 km priority corridor will begin in the first phase. The elevated route will be served by a total of 8 trains, with six rakes operating on the elevated corridor. During repairs and emergencies, the two additional trains will be parked at the depot and plugged in for commercial use. The Research Design and Standards Organisations have planned a six week trial period before the city's maiden runs. During this interim period, the agency will test and monitor aspects to ensure the deployment of a reliable train system.
