A YSR Congress party leader and local MP has submitted a detailed report on the expansion of the airport in Rajahmundry city. He has also sought more regional connectivity. Rajahmundry is a key airport for the twin Godavari districts. It caters to 7 mn people of East and West Godavari. The existing terminal has peak hour capacity of 225 passengers. A new terminal able to handle 1,400 passengers is proposed. The MP also sought direct connectivity between Rajahmundry and New Delhi. He said a preliminary estimate for construction of a new domestic departure terminal building and conversion of existing domestic terminal into arrival terminal would cost Rs.1335.3 mn. The estimate includes civil works, escalators, elevators and car parking facility.
