The committee, constituted by state government to suggest ways to reduce industrial power tariff in Vidarbha and Marathwada, has decided to visit four neighbouring states to study their industrial power rates. Industries in Maharashtra, especially Vidarbha and Marathwada, are facing stiff competition from units located in Telangana, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, because their power tariff is low. New units are not coming in these industrially backward regions to high power tariff. Instead of giving subsidies to the industries in the two regions, the committee was in favour of increasing various power incentives for them.
