The Uttarakhand Government is working on a new policy for micro and mini hydel projects, which will pave the way for a bigger role to gram panchayats and local entrepreneurs in their development. The idea is to pool in the resources to the optimum in power generation so that not only more power is produced but also the locals are involved in the process. Under the proposed policy, micro hydel projects with a capacity of producing 2 MW of power will be reserved for local gram panchayats.Gram panchayat under whose jurisdiction the project site falls will be given priority.
