Winners - KCP
KCP is a diversified business group, with business interests in cement, heavy engineering, power, sugar, hospitality and building materials. The company earns 85 per cent of its topline from the cement business, where it is a regional player in Andhra Pradesh with a 2.3 million tonne capacity in its two plants at Macherla and Muktyala. It has a heavy engineering division, with two heavy manufacturing facilities, having 4,500 million tonne foundry and 6,000 million tonne fabrication capabilities in Tamil Nadu. KCP is also a player in the Vietnam sugar industry, with a capacity of 8,000 tcd, expanding to 10,000 tcd in FY2017e. Both the cement plants are located within a 125-175 km range of the proposed capital city Amaravati (area: 212 sq km) located centrally in Andhra Pradesh. In addition, there are a lot of infrastructure projects in the pipeline for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, which would drive cement demand. KCP has reported a 20.1 per cent sales growth in FY2016, whereas net profit has grown by 54 per cent from its cement segment. From FY2012 to FY2016, its revenues have grown by 41 per cent, and net profit almost doubled in this period.
