The Karnataka state cabinet gave administrative approval for the detailed project report (DPR) of Raichur greenfield domestic airport at Rs 1.85 bn. Rights India was in charge of preparing the DPR. The upgrade of Raichur's airstrip to a minor airport has been proposed. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) granted technical approval in May 2021 for the construction of a 1,800-meter long runway suitable for ATR-72 sized aircraft, as requested by the Karnataka State Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (KSIDC).
