The construction of Chennai’s airport-Kilambakkam metro line is set to begin, as the Highways Department has approved the execution of the Rs.40.80 billion project. Chennai Metro Rail (CMRL) plans a mass rapid transit system between the airport and Kilambakkam as an extension of the Phase I project in the south of the city. The 15.3-km project will have stations at Pallavaram, Kothandam Nagar, Chromepet, Mahalakshmi Colony, Tambaram, Irumbuliyur, Peerkankaranai, Perungalathur, Vandalur, Arignar Anna Zoo and Kilambakkam Bus Terminus.
