In a major at modernisation of Trichy’s potable water supply, Trichy Corporation has allocated Rs.450 mn for improving the water headworks in the Cauvery River. The proposal paves way for 24X7 water supply in the areas selected under the Smart Cities Mission, and will increase the overall water yielding capacity of the existing headworks by 20 per cent. This will address the water requirement of the city for the next 20-25 years. The proposal to revamp the water extraction infrastructure in four headworks on the river bed has got clearances to utilise the Smart Cities Mission fund.
