Spurring infra development
ConMac is organised to accelerate infrastructure developments in the region, encourage local entrepreneurship, help building awareness on equipment and technology, skills, etc, and to develop the contractor base in North East India and provide education and access for small contractors to understand the latest technologies. ConMac 2017 had 120 exhibitors with 3,401 business visitors from India and abroad (Bangladesh and Myanmar).

The event is specifically designed as a showcase or knowledge platform for Army, BRO, Assam Rifles, government, private contractors, builders, road and infrastructure developers, for smart city and urban planning, etc, to witness the latest technology, equipment and machinery display, which will enable accelerated infrastructure development needs of the region.

Inaugurated by Sarbananda Sonowal, Chief Minister, Assam, he stated that Assam and the Northeast region would become the hub of trade and business in the South East Asian region in the future. He further added that an efficient transport communication system integrates remote, backward and urban areas and also plays a vital role in increasing productivity and improving quality of life.

Arvind Garg, Chairman, CII-ConMac 2017, said, North East India, covering 8 per cent of India's land and 3.1 per cent of India's population is the country's gateway to South East Asia.

The integration and development of the region is critical for India's continued progress. A conference on æInfrastructure Development in the North East Region - Focus on Roads & Highways' was organised by CII along with ICEMA, mainly focusing on developments of roads and highways in the region, technology on the latest equipment for accelerating infrastructure development in North East Region.

Speaking on 'Construction Equipment & Construction Technology' Rajen Gohain, Union Minister of State for Railways, said, 'The Railway Ministry has giant plans for the North-East. Several new tasks amounting to about Rs 13,500 crore were sanctioned in this year's Budget, together with new traces, bridges and an increased rail tract challenge from Kamakhya to New Guwahati at Rs 3,062 crore.

This edition was spread over 200,000 sq ft with large OEM's like JCB, Larsen & Toubro-Komatsu, Tata Hitachi, TIPL (CAT), Mahindra & Mahindra, SANY, Schwing Stetter, BKT, Kobelco, MRF, BEML, SREI, KYB Conmat, HPCL, Sandvik, Ajax Fiori, Action Construction, Wirtgen and many more, who showcased a wide range of machinery and equipment. The exhibition was attended by senior government and leading contractors of the region.
