Maharashtra Government to appoint four housing regulators for grievance redressal

Almost 25,000 cases related to real estate are pending with the consumer court. To address the grievances region-wise under the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act 2016, the Maharashtra Government is going to form four housing regulators. It has set a deadline of October 31, to finalise its rules and regulations, after which the authority would be formed in January next year.

According to the government, more regulators are required because more cases will be registered apart from the pending ones. It is expecting more cases to be registered before the housing regulator, which would require sufficient manpower to look into the same. It has also made a provision for four housing regulators so that all the cases would get justice.

Maharashtra will be the first in the country to come up with a housing authority. The housing department is framing the rules and regulations for the housing authority and the same would soon be made open for public suggestions. It has sought the opinion of the law and judiciary department on the issue and will soon finalise things. The housing department is also looking for a place at Bandra Kurla Complex, which is centrally located, for an office for the authority.
