TERI’s World Sustainable Development Summit 2016

In a gesture which can be seen as emphasising India’s ratification of the Paris Agreement and adoption of Agenda 2030, President of India Pranab Mukherjee, will inaugurate the World Sustainable Development Summit (WSDS) 2016, the flagship programme of The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), on October 6, at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. With the theme ‘Beyond 2015: People, Planet and Progress,’ the Summit will be organised from October 5-8, 2016, at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. The programme comes on the heels of India formally joining the Paris climate agreement by handing over the official ratification documents to the United Nations on October 2, 2016.

As a step in this direction, WSDS 2016 will witness an unprecedented number of distinguished leaders from the government, industry, academia and civil society to find local solutions to global challenges related to sustainability.

The Summit will also be graced by the presence of distinguished dignitaries such as Piyush Goyal, Minister of State (IC) for Power, Coal and New & Renewable Energy; Prakash Javadekar, Minister of Human Resources Development; Anil Madav Dave, Minister for Environment, Forests and Climate Change; Jayant Sinha, Minister of State for Civil Aviation; Tomasz Kozlowski, Ambassador of the European Union to India; Karmenu Vella, Commissioner for Environment, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, European Commission; Amitabh Kant, CEO, NITI Aayog (National Institution for Transforming India), Government of India; and Dipak Dasgupta, Former Principal Economic Adviser, Ministry of Finance, India & Former Board Member, Green Climate Fund.

As a precursor to the main event, TERI had last month held a series of Regional Dialogues in Guwahati, Bengaluru, Mumbai and New Delhi, to ensure that regional challenges solutions are heard as well as addressed at the international platform.
