The roots of true achievement lie in the will to become the best that you can become. These words by writer Harold Taylor embody the people who build the nation: Our very own architects and builders. Sixteen years ago, the CONSTRUCTION WORLD ARCHITECT & BUILDER (CWAB) Awards were initiated to recognise and award excellence in the design and building community. CWAB is the only awards event that recognises, felicitates and brings together architects and builders on a common platform. Along with recognising INDIA’S TOP ARCHITECTS AND BUILDERS, four years ago a new category of awards was added: NOTEWORTHY PROJECTS. And in a bid to unearth even more talent across the country, three years ago, a new dimension was added with The REGIONAL AWARDS, presented to a Top Architect, Builder and Interior Designer in each of the regions—North, South, East and West. Winnerspeak Shekhar Patki, Principal Architect, PG Patki Architects, refers to the CWAB Awards as “the Oscars of the construction industry”. Undoubtedly! And in the words of Sanjay Puri, Founder, Sanjay Puri Architects, said, “It is interesting to see the way you are pushing boundaries with all the work you are doing around sustainability and green and bringing people together on such platforms.” Encore Just like last year, when no pandemic or lockdown could stop the architect and builder fraternity from coming together as the 15th CWAB Awards were held for the first time virtually, this year, too, nothing will stop CW from recognising and saluting our winners. The CWAB Awards will be held virtually on August 20, 2021. This year, we are celebrating design excellence with a unique theme—REACT: to Respond to the Environment (includes the Pandemic) with Awareness, Creativity and Technology. Our Guest of Honour is Dr Vibha Dhawan, Director General, The Energy and Resources and Institute (TERI). Dr Dhawan has been associated with TERI since 1985. She has also served as the Vice-Chancellor of TERI School of Advanced Studies from 2005 to 2007. A Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, India, she is currently serving as Adjunct Professor, Consul General South Asia Partnership, Michigan State University. She is the winner of the Indian Women Achievers Samman 2017 by NRI Achievers; Women Leadership Agriculture Award 2016 by the Indian Council of Food & Agriculture; First Biotech Product and Process Development and Commercialisation Award of the Department of Biotechnology in 2000; the Kamal Kumari National Award for Science and Technology; and the first All India Biotech Association (AIBA) award in 1998. There’s more! What’s more, as a countdown to CWAB, we will also be organising a series of webinars. The topics of discussion include: Designing the Future of Architecture: August 6 Women in Architecture & Construction: August 13 Design-Build Trends: August 18 Habeeb Khan, President, Council of Architecture, will be our keynote speaker for the session on Designing the Future of Architecture. Architect Abha Lambah will be the keynote speaker for the session on Women in Architecture & Construction. And for the session on Design-Build Trends, we have renowned Architect Hafeez Contractor as the keynote speaker. Stay tuned Amid all this, the juries for India’s Top Architects & Builders and Noteworthy Projects have come together and decided on the winners already!
