Disney India's theme may be replicated in global markets

US-based Walt Disney's Indian arm Disney India forayed into the 'theme home' segment last year by selling the rights of its characters to two real estate developers in India so far. The company is expected to replicate the theme business in global markets.

Under this model, real estate developers offer Disney inspired interiors and exteriors for kids and families. Disney inspired homes will have Disney branded furnishing, home decor products, colour palettes to bring alive the complete Disney experience for families. Apart from the real estate project at Joka (Kolkata), Disney had sometime last year tied up with a Mumbai-based real estate company.

Director of Disney UTV-Consumer Products, Publishing and Retail, Roshini Bakshi told the media in Kolkata after announcing its tie-up with Kolkata-based real estate developer Team Taurus that it was an interesting and innovative business for the company. In this case, India has taken the lead, Roshini Bakshi said. According to Bakshi, this model has excited the parent firm and may get replicated in the US and other global markets.

Apart from the project in Kolkata being developed by Team Taurus, Disney has also tied up with a Mumbai-based real estate company Sunteck Realty.
