The Gujarat Government has signed a preliminary pact with Inox Wind for Rs 4,500 crore to set up a 700 MW power plant in the state. The MoU that will be implemented over the next two years in three districts of Gujarat - Rajkot, Amreli and Kutch.
Sanghi Industries plans to invest Rs 275 crore in the next 18 months on upgrading logistics and removing bottlenecks at its Kutch plant. This move is a part of its efforts to be a debt-free company in two to three years. The company is expected to invest Rs 150 crore on acquiring ships and setting up new jetties or terminals.
Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde on March 25 visited a marshy region, near the disputed Sir Creek, in Kutch and announced that approval for building a concrete road in the region would be given in a week’s time. Lauding the role of BSF personnel in guarding this difficult terrain, which is prone to infiltration from Pakistan, Shinde assured them that approval for building a concrete road right upto the bank of Harami Nala would be granted in a week’s time.
The cement industry, which has a production capacity of 324 mtpa, may witness further capacity addition of 30-40 mtpa as some of the projects slated for completion in 2012 got delayed and will now go on stream in 2013. For instance, ABG Shipyard’s 3.3 mtpa project at Kutch in Gujarat and Century Textiles’ 2.5 mtpa plant at Chandrapur in Maharashtra may complete during the year.
Amongst India’s top private sector ship builder, ABG Group is negotiating with private equity and financial firms to sell a minority stake in its cement business for about $150 mn. The company’s cement business, operating under ABG Cement, has a 6.5 mn tonne facility in Kutch, Gujarat, which is expected to be commissioned in a few weeks. In Gujarat, as the Adipur-Mundra highway, Bhuj-Anjar highway and Bhachau-Rapar highway have been taken up for broadening work, traveling to Kutch from Saurashtra and Ahmedabad will be quicker. A five meter wide Adipur-Mundra highway will be converted to 10 meter, while Bhuj-Anjar and Bhachau-Rapar both 7-meter wide highways will be converted to 10 meter status.
Adani Enterprise run Adani Power (APL) has taken its coal power generation capacity to 1,980 MW. The company has synchronised the country’s first 660 MW super critical unit at Mundra. This project has been certified for carbon credit under United Nation’s framework on Climate Change and APL also plans to set up a 4,620 MW coal fired power plant in the Kutch district of Gujarat. The project will consist of four units of 330 MW and five units of 660 MW.
