The proposed 49 km railway line connecting Hazaribagh railway station with Shivpur,Chatra has been cleared by the railway ministry.Preliminary work was done on the construction of the new line. After completion it would be significant for the economic development of both districts, which do not have rail links.
The Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure (CCI) approved the Railway Ministry's proposal to extend the new broad gauge rail-link from Imphal Road (Tupul) to Imphal and the updated cost of the entire project is Rs 4,444 crore. This will cover Imphal East, Tamenglong and Senapati districts of Manipur. This Jiribam-Imphal new line project, on completion, will provide rail connectivity to Imphal with the national mainstream. It will be completed by March 2016.
There's finally some action on the much-vaunted Dedicated Freight Corridor Project. Better late than never. The delay of almost two years in the execution of the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) project had raised doubts over its final completion.
By next May, the Railway Ministry will invite bids for the first phase of the 1,483-km western freight corridor. The move is part of a strategy to de-congest freight lines and accommodate the growing industrial traffic. The 640-km project-part of the 920 km Rewari-Vadodara stretch-is awaiting approval from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), which is funding the project, to begin financial bidding.
