Rs 3,000 crore will be invested by the Central Government in the Sagar Port at West Bengal. A rail-cum-road bridge connecting the main land and Sagar Port will be a part of this project. The project will ensure increasing handling of large vessels along with security checks across the Bay of Bengal region.
A facelift is to be given to the Annai Indira Gandhi Bridge, or the Pamban road bridge that connects the mainland to the island town of Rameswaram. As part of silver jubilee year of the the bridge, the facelift is being planned at a cost of Rs 18.57 crore. Renovation work on the 2.345-km-long bridge, inaugurated by the late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on October 2, 1988, was heralded by special puja and prayers during Wednesday and Thursday.
The Pamban Road Bridge, constructed across the sea, connecting the Rameswaram Island with main land, is to be renovated at Rs 15.5 crore. The renovation of the 2.5 km long ‘Annai Indira Gandhi Bridge’, built in 1987, will include parking facility on both sides of the bridge for tourists and the panoramic view of the sea.
In Patna, inauguration of the casting for 4.5-km-long rail-cum-road bridge at Digha was fulfilled by ECR GM Madhuresh Kumar at the bridge site in the city September 14. Railways has completed the launching of 22nd span of 123 metre girder of the rail-cum-road bridge so far. This bridge will have 9.075 metre carriageway width of road and 1.5 metre wide pathway on either side.
The cost for constructing girders of India´s longest rail-cum-road bridge at Bogibeel over Brahmaputra in Assam, by a HCC-led consortium, is likely to escalate by over Rs 300 crore, mainly due to expansion and delay of the project.

Ramboll has won the design and construction support contract for a GBP 1.6-billion, 22-km-long six-lane Mumbai Trans-Harbour road bridge in India. Ramboll will reportedly act as an advisor for the Indian and South Korean JV contractor Tata Projects-Daewoo.
